El 80 período de sesiones de la Asamblea General de la ONU inicia hoy oficialmente

Annalena Baerbock of Germany was elected President of the eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly. “I am deeply grateful and humbled to have the honour to serve all of you and preside over the General Assembly during its 80th Session. […] I will serve all 193 Member States as an honest broker and as a unifier. As a President of the General Assembly, I will engage in a trust-based dialogue with all Member States. My door will always be open for everyone. Better together,” said the President-elect. At dais are, from left to right, Secretary-General António Guterres; Philemon Yang, President of the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly; and Movses Abelian, UN Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management. In accordance with the established regional rotation, the President of the eightieth session of the General Assembly is to be elected from the Western European and Other States Group. Annalena Baerbock has been nominated by Germany and endorsed by the Western European and Other States Group as the Group’s candidate. The meeting further drew lots by the Secretary-General to determine the Member State which will occupy the first seat in the General Assembly Hall at the eightieth session (Niger); and held election of the Vice-Presidents of the General Assembly and of officers of the Main Committees.

El Segmento de Alto Nivel del 80 período de sesiones de la Asamblea General de la ONU inicia hoy oficialmente con Gaza y el Estado Palestino, Ucrania, Sudán y otras guerras como desafíos urgentes.

Durante los próximos seis días también se debatirá aquí de otros retos como el cambio climático, la igualdad de la mujer y la inteligencia artificial en un mundo que precisa soluciones apremiantes a sus graves problemas.

Justo los líderes mundiales convergerán en el Salón de la Asamblea General en su sede de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU), a orillas del East River en Manhattan, para lo que promete ser -según algunas apreciaciones en medios locales- una de las reuniones anuales más cruciales de los últimos tiempos.

Al menos 193 delegaciones, unos 89 Jefes de Estado y 43 Jefes de Gobierno participarán en el Segmento de Alto Nivel del 80 período de sesiones de la Asamblea General de la ONU, se informó hoy aquí.

Al actualizar a los periodistas la víspera, en su habitual conferencia de prensa, Stéphane Dujarric, portavoz del secretario general António Guterres, dijo que se esperan otros jefes de delegaciones y que para esta semana se programaron unas mil 642 reuniones bilaterales.
